A speakeasy was a clandestine establishment during American prohibition. These secret bars were the perfect places to get alcohol or party. The name “speakeasy” comes from the fact that the bartender asked customers to keep a low tone so as not to attract suspicion. Bootleggers of the time had an essential role in supplying these bars

Histoire
History
The Bootlegger, L’Authentique was born in 2015 from what can be categorized as a student project. The initial goal was to bring a different concept to St-Laurent Street, a place offering an experience of discovery and refinement. At the very beginning, the vision to become a jazz cabaret as they were portrayed during the years of American prohibition.

It was on June 17, 2016 that the doors of the establishment were finally opened for Montrealers. Gradually, the establishment found its vocation for the cocktail and its scene widened to accommodate variety shows. What used to be an authentic jazz cabaret has become a comedy room, a Blues bar, a residence for Hip-Hop and many other artists. The project quickly became a family business, which greatly helped shape the heart and mind of the establishment.

Localisation
Location
We chose to settle on St-Laurent Boulevard, formerly known as’ ‘Maine’ ‘in Montreal, in order to bring a wind of innovation in the neighborhood but also because this place had been in the past a’ recognized live Venue of the metropolis and had seen the birth of several internationally known musicians of today. Boulevard St-Laurent has long been the symbol of Montreal nightlife, which in recent decades has lost its charm. Part of our mission was to bring something different and refined as much for the people of the neighborhood as for the workers of boulevard St-Laurent.
